Star pupils collect their prizes in special awards ceremony at school

 PUPILS at Glan Afan Comprehensive School took part in their annual prize giving ceremony this week.

The evening was held in the school hall on Thursday in the presence of special guests councillor Jeff Dinham and Mrs Dinham, the deputy mayor and mayoress, Mrs Pam Spender, who chairs the school’s governing body, and Canon Nigel Cahill, rector of the Parish of Aberavon.

Musical enternainment and an address by the Rev Cahill was followed by the presentation of academic awards. Eighty per cent of pupils gained five or more A* to C grades or equivalent this year, the school’s best-ever result and one of the best in Neath Port Talbot County Borough.

The Duke of Edinburgh achievements and certificates were also presented.

The evening concluded with the presentation of GCSE and Entry level certificates to last year’s year 11 pupils.
