Seafront walk backs National Adoption Week

30 October 2012

PEOPLE in Port Talbot are being asked to put their best foot forward in support of National Adoption Week.
The council’s Adoption Service is organising a walk along Aberavon Seafront on Friday, November 2, as part of the Adoption Walk Wales event. They want as many people as possible to take part, and are encouraging adoptive families and people who have been adopted, in particular, to take part.
The walk will start at 2pm, and walkers are asked to meet outside Café Remos. Participants will walk along the seafront, past Ysbryd y Môr to the end of the promenade and back to Remos. Refreshments will be provided, and the route is flat and suitable for wheelchairs and prams.
Walkers can complete the whole walk or part of it. If you do not want to take part in the walk, but would like to some information or advice on adoption, Adoption Service staff will be on hand to speak to you.
A spokeswoman for Adoption Walk Wales said: “Adoption Walk Wales will be taking place in the lead-up to National Adoption Week, from October 29 to November 4. It is a chance to explore beautiful coastline while increasing awareness of adoption and the need for adoption support in Wales.
“We are hoping to cover the whole of the coastline with groups or individuals who have a connection with adoption taking on as much or as little of the journey as they like.
“We hope this event will also provide opportunities for adoptive families to get together and celebrate the amazing transformations that adoption can bring to children’s lives.
“National Adoption Week is so important in reminding people about the backgrounds of the children waiting for adoption, and the difference adoption can make to a child’s life.
“We know from existing adoptive families that it can be hard work, but the rewards are huge. This is a chance to transform a child’s life for ever. ”
