MUSIC fans defied the wind and rain to get BeachFest2011 off to a flying start on Saturday.

A large marquee covers the music, bar and seating areas at The Four Winds hotel on Aberavon seafront, with organisers promising “a totally weatherproof music festival”.

The three-day BeachFest 2011 features a line-up of 18 bands over two days, with an ‘after party’ on bank holiday Monday. There is a large stage and PA system.

Bands include The Local Strangers, Rubix, This River, Buffalo Summer, Vertigo, The Avisi, Texas Flood, Lemon, Where Corals Lie, S.E.X, Slave Machine, The Last Ride, Carbon, Break-Out, Heavy Petting Zoo, Tabularasa, Marcus Gumms, The Side Effects, Lost in Liberty and Armonite, with more acts likely to be announced during the event.

The festival starts at noon each day and entry is free.
