Fighters from the Afan Lido Kickboxing Club have been selected to represent Great Britain, and say they are aiming for gold medals.

Four Afan Lido Kickboxers have been selected to represent Team GB at the World Association of Kickboxing Organisation (WAKO) World Championship, to be held in Dublin in August.

From Port Talbot, fighters Kieran Jones, aged 18, Dalton John, aged 16, Cameron Bradshaw, aged 13 and 11-year-old Lewis Hemmings will be heading to Dublin to compete alongside more than 2000 competitors from over 150 countries.

Mark Watkins, Head Instructor at Afan Lido Kickboxing and Team GB Coach said: “I’m absolutely delighted that four of our squad have been selected to represent Port Talbot and Team GB in Ireland. This is a fantastic achievement as the selection process is highly competitive. These lads are fully dedicated to the sport and we are confident that we will return with medals.”

To qualify, the Port Talbot fighters saw off opponents from the around the UK to win podium places at the WAKO British championships, held in Birmingham in February. After fighting their way to the top of British kickboxing, they then had to attend a lengthy selection process of squad training and fight offs before finally being selected for Team GB.
