A mystery benefactor has stepped forward to help get an award nominee to a top industry award ceremony.
Sandfields resident Peter Bush has been nominated for two top awards next month, a Hotel Catey for his crisis management during a flood at a Cardiff hotel, and a St John’s Ambulance first aid champion award. He is the only Welsh nominee in either list.
But he had made an appeal earlier this week on porttalbotmagnet.com because he couldn’t afford the tickets, travel and accommodation, having lost his job following a car accident.
Now the benefactor – who has asked to remain anonymous – has promised Peter a pair of tickets and a room at the London Lancaster Hotel where the awards are taking place, as well as the price of his travel from Port Talbot to London.
“It’s fantastic news, I’m so excited,” he said. “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I’m thrilled to know that I will definitely be going.”
He said the generous donation came after the benefactor had seen the story on porttalbotmagnet.com.
“Thank you so much for running the article,” he said.
Peter will press ahead with his fundraising night at the G6 nightclub on November 1, but says he now intends to donate the proceeds to charity.
“All the bands are booked so I will definitely go ahead. I haven’t decided which charity I will give the money to yet, but it will probably be the RNLI or St John’s Ambulance for all the good work they do.”
