Magnet appeal brings Port Talbot family together

19 December 2012

CHRISTMAS has come early for one Port Talbot family – they have been in contact with a relative they never knew they had, following an appeal posted on the Magnet website.

Amy Wilson was born in Lincoln.

Amy Wilson was born in Lincoln.

Rose Lewis, from Lincoln, was desperate to get in touch with her aunt, Amy Wilson, who was last heard of living in Port Talbot in the 1950s, so that she could fill in some large gaps in her family circumstances, so she contacted the Magnet in what she admitted was “a long shot”.
But it was a long shot that paid off because this week she had a phone call from a niece living in Port Talbot.
She said: “One of Amy Wilson’s daughters – my cousin – telephoned me today. I now have a whole new section of family to get to know.”
Amy Wilson’s elder brother, Bernard, was Rose Lewis’s father. Rose’s mother died in childbirth when Rose was born, and she never met her father, being brought up in Lincoln by her grandmother and her husband.
The only information she had about Amy was that she married a man called Gordon Wilson in 1951, that they later divorced, and that she had last been heard of living in Port Talbot.
Rose added: “My head is spinning with all the things I have discovered. Thank you so much for the Magnet’s help.”
