Port Talbot Historical Society is celebrating its 60th anniversary with a display of fascinating old photos in the Aberavon Shopping Centre from Monday, 31 March to Saturday, 5 April.

Mayor Marion Lewis will officially open the display at 11am on 31 March.

Visitors will also be able to watch a short video about the history of the society. It will pay tribute to the late Mr Arthur Leslie Evans, who held the position of chairman for 36 years.

A spokesman for the society said: “Mr Evans published over 30 books in his lifetime and his contribution to the society cannot be overestimated.

“We will also have a scanner at our display, so if you want to share any of your photographs or documents then please bring them along.”

Port Talbot Historical Society meets every first Wednesday in the month from October to April, at 7pm at Carmel Vestry (rear of Station Road). From May to September there is one excursion per month, plus a three day excursion to somewhere further afield.
