A LARGE amount of earth washed on to the road between Cymmer and Glyncorrwg in the upper Afan Valley at about 8:30am today and blocked the highway. The local police said it was possibly a result of the continuing downpours in the area.

The lanes were closed in both directions, but the local authority Highways department was quickly on the scene and had reopened the road in about 20 minutes.

Glyncorrwg primary school was also closed for a short time as teachers struggled to get to work.

There were no reports of any damage or injuries and traffic was soon back to normal.

A council spokesman said: “We can confirm there were no casualties and that the council’s Highways staff did a great job in clearing the road.”
