Garland kicks wizards to victory

Wizards huddle signifies strong team unity

Aberavon Wizards’ perfect record continued as they racked up a fifth successive victory in Saturday’s 26-24 win over Newport.

It was the hosts who raced into an early lead, however, when Dan  Partridge dived over for the first try at three minutes and Robson added the conversion. Coming back for the hosts was Joe Thomas, the centre running from distance and Offloading for winger, Steff Andrews, to  race clear.  The free flowing rugby that we have come to expect from Aberavon was starting to become evident and centre, Will Price, crashed over next. Unfortunately when Garland was converting, Price was exiting the field with an injury.

Newport responded to this with a penalty try of their own but again Garland kicked to increase the Wizards lead. An advancing scrum for Aberavon ended with another try when former Black and Ambers player, Chris Davies placed the ball over the try line. Now the match was tied at 24-24, leaving James Garland with the task of converting for the win. No sweat it, the prodigious kicker placed the kick to precision to decide this one.
