coedhirwaunAberavon AM David Rees has congratulated St Paul’s Centre and Coed Hirwaun Community Association after it was announced that they are set to benefit from almost £390,000.

The organisations will be awarded the funds through the Welsh Government’s Community Facilities and Activities Programme (CFAP).

St Paul’s Centre, Aberavon, intends to use the money to help replace the existing church hall with a purpose built community centre.

Coed Hirwaun Community Association, in Margam, is to construct a multi-use games area.

Mr Rees said: “These projects are focused upon delivering significant regeneration benefits for local communities, including some in our most deprived areas.

“They will provide two differing communities with much needed facilities for local residents.

“The new centre at St Pauls will provide a wide range of local groups of all ages with a modern facility that will act as a hub for many activities.

“In Coed Hirwaun we will see the provision of a facility that will allow young people to access a variety of sports all year round.

“I look forward to seeing these projects develop and become major centres for social interaction amongst local groups.”

CFAP was launched in 2002 and has funded 875 projects totalling over £100m.
