In this basement battle in Division Two West, with both sides searching for a first win of the season, it was a victory for Taibach against visitors Haverfordwest at The Plough.

The Tigers were first to score when outside half Mike McSweeney kicked a penalty, but within two minutes, Haverfordwest drew level when outside half Stevie Williams replied with a penalty.

Just before the half hour, Taibach took play into the visitors’ half, and from a lineout, the ball was caught and held, and scrum half Craig Whelan broke blindside, and sprinted along the touchline to run 30 metres to score a try in the corner. Before halftime, Mike McSweeney kicked another two penalties for a halftime score of 14-3 to Taibach.

In the first 15 minutes of the second half, McSweeney kicked a further two penalties increasing his tally to five. On the half hour, the Tigers broke from their half, and on reaching the Haverfordwest 22, a kick ahead by flanker Mike Kelly the chase for the ball was won by wing Richard Lewis who touched down for Taibach’s second try, and a first win of the season by 25-3 points.
