Port Talbot polling stations enjoy busy election day

Busy election day at Port Talbot’s polling stations

23 June 2016

Polling station staff say they have enjoyed a busy day as voters from the Port Talbot area turned out to vote on whether Britain should stay in, or leave the European Union in the referendum that’s been called the decision of a lifetime.

Voting took place at 116 polling stations across the local area. As soon as polling stations shut at 10pm, sealed boxes containing the ballot papers were sent to the count venue at Neath’s Cwrt Herbert sports centre to be sifted through and verified by 99 counters, and 11 chief counters who oversee the rigorous procedure.

The total electorate for the local area was 105,766 with the voter turnout in the election set to be announced shortly.
