Port Talbot artist Bert Evans is the painter behind the exhibition, which will also include many paintings inspired by the Michael Sheen production of The Passion.

Bert was born and paints in Port Talbot. He attended Newport college of Art in the late 60’s, where he specialised in illustration

Much of his subject matter is from what he sees each day.

“I’d just as soon paint a rain-soaked street in Taibach as paint a sun-drenched street on the Mediterranean. It’s all about the effect of light on a subject,” he said.

In the exhibition, Bert will be showing some unseen work inspired by The Passion.

Michael Sheen has previously purchased several of Bert’s originals, as have members of the production team.

As well as The Passion work , there will be watercolour portraits and local scenes in acrylics and oils. Taibach, Aberavon beach and Margam all feature.

“Many paintings are for sale, but I felt it was important to exhibit here in the town, which has given me the inspiration and subject matter,” added Bert.

Bert’s paintings have attracted much interest from people who have moved  away, and from now on everyone can see his work on his new website, www.bertevansartist.co.uk, which will be regularly updated when new work is completed.

Bert also runs an Art Club for those who want to improve drawing and painting skills. He can be contacted by e mail on bertevansartist15@hotmail.com or phone 01639 771742

The exhibition runs until Saturday 1 September at the Aberafan Shopping Centre.
