The 46th Round the Pier Swim at Aberavon Beach will be held on Saturday, June 21 at 2pm.

It will start and finish at the Little Warren clubhouse of Aberavon Green Stars RFC, who have been organising this popular biathlon since 1969.

It consists of a 700m road run to the water’s edge, a sea swim of about 800m and another 700m run back to the clubhouse.

Entrants, who must be at least 16 years of age, can register at the clubhouse from 12.30pm.

The entry fee is £5 and successful entrants will receive an embroidered tee shirt donated by Tata Steel, who are the main sponsors.

Tata employees will be competing for the Peter Allen trophy and pottery tankards for the first five to finish the course.

The Frank Burke cups are presented to the winners of the open event and club members’ event while the first three ladies receive pottery tankards donated by Port Talbot Brickwork Ltd.

The race will be started off by the new Mayor of Neath Port Talbot CBC, Cllr Hugh James, along with Mr Martin Brunnock, technical director Tata Steel UK, and club president Mr Mathew Crowley.

There will be live music in the clubhouse by the Raspberry Jam band after the presentation (free admission). Safety coverage will be provided by Aberavon Surf Lifesaving Club, Aberavon Canoe Club and Port Talbot RNLI.
