The Producer of The Passion, Lucy Davies, asked me the other day whether, due to the extraordinary nature of putting the show together, I’ve been keeping a diary. Of course the problem, when you’re working on a project for which you would have loads to write about is that that is the kind of project that leaves you no free time to document them. Similarly, it seems with blogging. It’s been a while, so I’ll try to sum up just some of what we’ve been up to.

A couple of weeks back, National Theatre Wales set up a stall at the Aberavon shopping centre to collect people’s memories of the town, their photographs or home movies. We received some incredible things, from rolls of cinefilm to bags of undeveloped camera film (and nobody knows what’s on them). We’re still looking for personal videos and cine film – from footage of weddings or birthdays to any home movie footage – anything that gives a personal snapshot of Port Talbot life. We will be based at the Naval Social Club on Purcell Avenue from Monday 21st March, so please drop off your films, cinefilm or old videos. We will convert it onto DVD for you and return all originals.

We’ve also just set up weekly introductory sessions for anyone who thinks they might be interested in getting involved in The Passion. They will run from 6.30pm until 8.30pm every Monday night at the Taibach Rugby Club. Drop in and meet the creative team!

And, in very exciting news, Monday 21st March also marked the start of rehearsals. It is so exciting to think that the cast and all of the creative team and crew have now come together for the first time. The cast are mostly Port Talbot natives, so lots of us are going to share friends and memories about the town. I’ll make sure I keep you updated as to how rehearsals progress.

Meanwhile, if you’d like to get in touch, please do on 02920 353070/ 07580 095039 or email me at
