Port Talbot MP Dr Hywel Francis has announced that he will not seek re-election for the Aberavon constituency at the 2015 General Election. Dr Francis has been the MP for the area since 2001.

In announcing his proposed retirement, he said: “It has been a great privilege to be the local Member of Parliament and to serve the constituents of Aberavon.

“There have been many great challenges facing us since 2001 – and none no more than today as we face the Conservative-Liberal Democratic Coalition Government with its austerity programme. But I am hopeful for the future.

“I wish to thank the electors of Aberavon, the Aberavon Constituency Labour Party, my staff and my family for their support.”

What do you think of Hywel Francis’s time as MP? Has it brought benefits for Port Talbot?
