Aberavon Green Stars youth team reversed a 10-13 half time deficit to defeat a strongly fancied Mumbles youth fifteen in this Ospreys Division 2 Youth league fixture at Little Warrren today.
Stars number eight Kieren Mattocks opened the scoring with a penalty after five minutes but the visitors outside half Jack Palmer, who went on to score all of Mumbles’ points, retook the lead with a try near the posts. He put over the easy conversion and then added two penalties before the break. Not to be outdone Kieren Mattocks also crossed for a try which he converted.
Aberavon Green Stars had the better of the second half with tries by centre Dominic Carroll and outside half Sean Curran. The former try was spectacular after Carroll intercepted near his own line and sprinted the length of the field to touch down under the posts. Mattocks converted both tries.
Both teams lined up prior to the start and observed a one-minute silence for the four Swansea Valley miners.
