Beach blast

29 July 2010

Discover your natural creativity this summer at Neath Port Talbot’s first ever two day environmental open-air beach art festival. The fun event will take place on Aberavon Beach between Franco’s and the lifeguard station.

The project will give an opportunity for all members of the community to work with the “Sculpture by the Sea” celebrated artists and create their very own open-air display of temporary beach art that will only remain until the tide comes in, but will of course be photographed.

The sculptures will be made from natural materials such as, sand, shells and pebbles found on the beach and will be inspired by Aberavon Beach and its marine life making it a great activity for all the family.

Council Leader Ali Thomas said ” This is a wonderful opportunity for a fun family day out at one of Neath Port Talbot’s finest attractions. This is the first time Sculpture by the Sea has visited Aberavon Beach and  I would encourage the community to take part in this educational and fun summer initiative funded by Neath Port Talbot Community Arts and the Arts Council of Wales.”

The workshops are for all ages, adults and children, between 10.00am and 4.00pm on Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th August, weather permitting. Please remember to bring along your buckets and spades. Children should be accompanied by an adult and remember to wear hats and sunscreen if the weather dictates.
